hold me tighter and keep me grounded It was funny sometimes, how much Sparrowflight found himself missing the mountains.
Did he regret the pawsteps that had drawn him home? No. Certainly not. Today he felt he belonged in RiverClan in a way he never had as an apprentice. But occasionally…when the air stilled and began to warm and the sun beat down with promises of new life, Sparrowflight found himself day dreaming of the time he’d spent stretched over warm rock and listening to the constant hush of the waterfall.
‘Still,’ he told himself happily, breathing in the familiar scents of the reeds and birch as he padded through RiverClan territory, ‘There are things to love about home too.’
And that’s what RiverClan was. Sparrowflight was sure of it after the travels he’d been on. Home. Though there were friends he missed and even more of the unknown he wanted to see, he knew he was where he belonged.
Today, that meant hunting for watercress. The peppery herb was good for fever and sore throats, and though leaf bare was now behind them as the earth warmed with new leaf, Sparrowflight preferred caution to optimism when it came to the health of his clanmates.
It was a little lonely, he mused, pausing to nuzzle aside some reeds at the edge of the river to look for the dark green leaves he was hunting for. Perhaps he should see if there were any apprentices free to bother. The thought made Sparrowflight purr with affectionate amusement. He had a feeling they all thought there were better things to do then tag along and dig for herbs with the dreamy medicine cat.

[attr="class","reason"] [attr="class","reasonbg"] [attr="class","reasonbod"]“Where do you think you're going?” The taunting tone slipped from a certain teen's maw, as he stalked after a bird which he'd already started to torment. It's right wing was broken, with several feathers dislodged. It tried to take flight, only to circle and crash back into the grass. Watching it struggle tickled the young tom's heart, his purr loudly rumbling from his form, to mix in and make music with the bird's frantic squawks as it crashed again, and again.
He'd pounce on it once again, just to casually dig his claws into it's back, but he'd try to keep himself from pressing too hard – he didn't want it to die yet. But his peripheral was suddenly interrupted, as a russet silhouette appeared, heading toward the river's edge, and he'd misjudge the pressure. Oops. The bones of the bird crunched beneath him, it's pained outburst temporarily blessing his eardrums before it's struggle ended for good.
Too bad.
He lifted it up by it's foot, allowing it to dangle as he headed toward the newcomer several rabbit lengths away. The scent of the older tom, in combination with his pelt, told Shadpaw exactly who it was: Sparrowflight, the handsome Medicine Cat. The one who Shadpaw had often seen taking measured, dreamy glances at his mentor, Ashblaze.
With a slightly muffled voice, Shadpaw would approach with his usual confident saunter, “Hello handsome, what are you up to? Need any help? I'm all yours, if so. It'd be a delight to be in such attractive~ company.” [newclass=.reason]width:400px;padding:5px;border:5px #4848a8 solid;[/newclass][newclass=.reasonbod]font-style:regular;padding:20px;font-family:times;font-size:12px;line-height:14px;text-align:justify;[/newclass][newclass=.reasonbod b]color:#4848a8;font-style:italic;[/newclass][newclass=.reasontag]background-color:#7d7da8;padding:10px;font-family:verdana;font-size:9px;line-height:12px;text-align:center;color:#fff;letter-spacing:1px;border:2px #4848a8 solid;[/newclass]

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED. ♥ The sound of an animal in distress drew Sparrowflight away from his task. A bird was giving weak cries, intermittent and frantic. The sound of a creature suffering always made Sparrowflight feel sick. Even as an apprentice hunting had been difficult for him, when his clumsiness or lack of skill resulted in the unintentional torture of a prey animal. It was nauseating to him, even as he knew it was part of the role he as a cat had to play. Just as he was drawing close, the sounds stopped suddenly, and Sparrowpelt frowned. A moment later, Shadpaw padded into site, a smug look on his face and a disheveled bird in his jaws. Sparrowflight gave a slow blink, unable to keep away the feeling of forboding he felt at the sight. All the same, he couldn’t help an amused smile at Shadpaw’s flirtatious greeting, the young tom always seeming to be ready to flatter. “Hello Shadpaw,” he greeted evenly, gaze softening. Sure, he had his concerns about Shadpaw. It was clear he held little regard for the life of smaller creatures, and his conceit and pride could be dangerous if left unchecked. But Shadpaw was still young, and…Ashblaze was his mentor. Sparrowflight felt confident that if anyone could set Shadpaw on the right direction, it was Ashblaze. “I would appreciate the help, if you have the time,” he purred, “I’m looking for watercress. Do you know what it looks like?”

[attr="class","reason"] [attr="class","reasonbg"] [attr="class","reasonbod"]The softening in the russet tom's eyes caused a form of it to enter his own eyes, though he found the feeling was more attuned to attraction than actual fondness. The tom was actually handsome, after all. Too nice, but Sparrowflight certainly had a fine pelt and figure.
“I absolutely have the time, especially for you, Sparrowflight~”
He dropped the fresh carcass then, minding only to shove a few bits of dirt and grass on it, before he snaked forward. “I do not. I guess that means we should spend more time together, so next time I'll know exactly what to look for.”
He debated briefly on bringing up Ashblaze, but elected to save that teasing for later – if a good time came for it. But for now he'd just be the eager teen ready to help. One who possessed a rather smitten emerald gaze, at that. HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ Sparrowflight gave a soft purr of amusement at Shadpaw’s eagerness, knowing all too well it wasn’t due to a genuine interest in the herb. “Really?” he teased slyly, “Perhaps you were destined to be a medicine cat’s apprentice. I should steal you away from Ashblaze and see if you’re better suited for sorting dry herbs than hunting and fighting.” He lead the way back toward the river, tail lifted happily as the clouds shifted and the spring sun warmed their pelts. “Watercress is a very dark, rich green,” he told Shadpaw as they approached the river edge, “The leaves are round, with a long stem, and they grow in bunches. The Tribe used it to treat fevers.” A hint of wistfulness touched his voice, then like the clouds above it was gone. ooc:

[attr="class","reason"] [attr="class","reasonbg"] [attr="class","reasonbod"]Shadpaw felt his pelt ripple with distaste at the thought of being a Medicine Cat.. with nothing but herbs to stick his claws into? “If only I were intelligent enough to be one~ but my mind isn't nearly sharp enough.” He spoke with the intent to flatter the orange-pelted tom, whose coat just lit up like fire as the clouds allowed the sun to kiss the pair of them.
Following in Sparrowflight's tracks, Shadpaw felt a predatory urge tickle at him, as the other male's hind-side teased ahead.
Tch. The apprentice felt his gaze shift away, glancing at the glistening river. He'd came in expecting to pester Sparrow about the glances he'd often seen the Medicine Cat turn toward Ashblaze. But instead he had found himself wanting the tom in a similar fashion, albeit no doubt with less romance on mind.
'Watercress is very dark, rich green,' His emerald gaze turned ahead once more, as his white pads sped up to erase the russet backside from view, trying instead to walk side by side. “Doesn't that just.. describe everything, though?” His voice held an amused buoyancy, as he mimicked playfulness. [attr="class","reasontag"] Sparrowflight - did i keep that pg-13 enough? LOL. HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ Sparrowlfight chuckled at Shadpaw’s self depreciating comment, suspecting that the young tom thought himself very intelligent indeed. He could feel Shadpaw’s gaze on him, and he thought it was rather charming that the apprentice would be willing to tag along when he’d surely rather be off doing more warrior-like training. “I suppose to the untrained eye it might,” he hummed, “If I ever get an apprentice of my own, I’ll have to think carefully about how I - aha!” Sparrowflight broke off, slithering down to the river’s edge. Cool water soaked his paws as he stepped in, leaning to nip a healthy clump of greenery. He brought it to the shore and set it down, lapping the sharp peppery taste from his jaws. “See? Much darker than other grasses or herbs around,” he pointed out proudly, “It’s important not to take too much. You have to leave enough to regrow so there will be a continued supply.”
ooc: Sparrowflight would CLUTCH HIS PEARLS if he could read Shadpaw's mind xD

[attr="class","reason"] [attr="class","reasonbg"] [attr="class","reasonbod"]Intentionally forcing himself to avoid his more primal desires, Shadpaw would hang, instead, onto Sparrow's every word until he took off, suddenly distracted like a bird sighting the most delectable worm. Shad titled his head, cool as he watched the tom slip off to the river's edge and snatch some floating greenery from it's surface. He followed after, to meet the Medicine Cat at the shore, an apparently 'impressed' expression coloring his visage. Even though the truth beneath was certainly farm from it, although..
As Sparrow dropped the clump of leaves and explained on the importance of leaving enough behind, Shadpaw briefly toyed with the idea of what would be the consequences if all of the watercress were to suddenly disappear over night. “What is the purpose of this watery.. leaf? stuff anyways? Is it super important?”
He leaned to curiously sniff the clump, before his emerald gaze turned innocently and inquistively back at Sparrowflight.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ “It can be,” Sparrowflight replied, touched to see Shadpaw showing some interest. “It’s peppery, and can help warm the blood if a cat is chilled. It helps with fevers, or if a cat takes an icy dip and needs to warm up,” he said, nudging a leaf toward Shadpaw, “Go on, try some. You’ll remember the flavor.” He paused, lifting his gaze as he thought. “When I was in the mountains, I took a bad tumble on some ice,” he shared with a self-depreciating purr, “I still struggled with my bad leg, but wanted to keep up with the other warriors. I ended up falling through some ice, and would have drowned if they hadn’t been there to fish me out. I ate watercress until my teeth were green for days after that! But it worked.” He waved his tail, trying not to feel too nostalgic. “Luckily we should be out of danger of ice for a while yet,” he hummed happily, “How about you, Shadpaw? What have you and Ashblaze been working on lately?” He bent to bundle the watercress into his jaw, gesturing for Shadpaw to lead the way back to camp as he answered. ooc:
