[attr="class","appBAR"]
[attr="class","appFIELD"]From a first glance Mintnose can come off as an intimidating presence. With his large size, abnormal for his WindClan heritage, and a relatively stern expression resting on his scarred face with sharp green eyes, he can come off as a warrior who’s ready to make a point. Of course, the truth is far from it, and just as quickly the stance will fade, leaving a large tom sheepishly ducking his head and rushing out excuses for even coming close to unsettling anyone. In all honesty, Mintnose is far from a threat, and the role of a medicine cat is possibly the best place for him to be due to it.
For the most part, Mintnose is known for his calm and steady nature. A rock within a river of different personalities and goals, he always seems to have himself under control and ready to face whatever comes his way with a gentle smile and soft words. He’s a cat who has a lot of patience, and a relatively strong resolve when it comes to stressful situations and hard decisions. He does know when to put his paw down, guided by strong morals and a determine, pacifistic nature that have him holding steady fast in a consistent, predictable manner that can be a settling force in itself to those around him.
Compassionate and empathetic to fault, he’ll go out of his way to help anybody who needs it, WindClan or not. Everyone deserves a chance at trust and the best chance to survive and become the best cat they possibly can in his book, and he’ll do whatever he can to facilitate that. He wants to help, and does believe that all cats are inherently good, even if their purposes and goals are different from his, or if it can’t be seen at first. Of course, this determination for good often leads him down the path of being taken advantage of. He’ll do anything for the sake of helping another, even if at times that means going beyond the borders or helping someone that he really shouldn’t be. It doesn’t help he’s too quick to forgive, and certainly too quick to give out second and third chances.
In many ways, there’s a certain innocent air to the large tom, despite his maturity and resting sternness. He doesn’t like talking about clan politics, even though he acknowledges them and fills his duties in response to them, he’s much rather talk about the future, and recite stories of old to kits and apprentice who come looking. A strong optimist, he will always try to find the best of a situation, even if that means sugar-coating or avoiding the truth of a situation for the sake of it. Some may say he’s naïve, however, he does walk a fine line, and it’s purely his deeper understanding and somewhat hidden wisdom that have him sneaking away from the trait, yet, it all comes down to interpretation.
Yet, those elements won’t stop him from willingly caring for and playing with the younger cats of the clan, for laughing and telling jokes. His disposition of sternness fades quickly when someone steps in to distract him from it. Of course, the younger cats do work best with him, given sarcasm and dark humour aren’t quite areas he’s all too great al. He understands the jokes and elements of them, however, in most cases it’ll fly straight over his head, and leave the tom frowning and delving into a lecture on positive thinking. In that sense, dry and pessimistic cats may tire of his somewhat killjoy tendencies when it comes to their style of fun and humour.
In many ways, however, Mintnose does hold a lot of contradictions in himself. Despite his resolve and determination, he is a sensitive soul. Insults and harsh comments get under his skin quickly, and while he isn’t upfront the most expressive cat, it is a significant shift when something has hit home. He doesn’t handle criticism and insults well, and even if he can logically understand them as not true and said to get under his fur, they stick, and cycle in his mind, often playing into his self-doubts. Yet, getting under his skin is more likely to sadden him, to make him withdraw and dismiss himself, rather than provoke anger. Mintnose really doesn’t express anger very well. It’s not an easy state to get him in, first and foremost. He’d rather load blame on himself, rather than get indignant or lash out.
But, of course there is always a limit, and if it’s in defence of himself or another cat, he does have a point where he snaps. However, even then the furthest he’ll get is pinning someone to the ground and yelling, until he collects himself enough to back off. Typically, however, he’d rather bite his tongue, to hold everyone back and down, and do his best to show respect and decency to every cat he comes across. For better or worse.
He does have a strong tendency to take the moral higher ground, and lecture unnecessarily. Of course, on the occasion that he acknowledges more serious topics. However, it is all done with respect and creating a wider view of those around him, even if they don’t see it the same way. He does try his best not to be judgemental, however it’s clear that on occasion that does come through. Nothing is done with malice or hurt in mind, even if it happens, and it is all too easy to have Mintnose equally spewing out apologises at the slightest upset.
Yet, the only case where this isn’t true is his work. Mintnose may have a lot of self-doubt about if he’s doing the right thing morally, or if he’s being the best version of himself, however he has full confidence in his abilities and his skills as a medicine cat, for better or worse. A perfectionist who is over-analytical at the best of times, he sees even an extended sickness as failure, and takes the hit hard. He is always striving to find better ways of doing things and pushing the limits in order to make sure there is no mistake. After all, medicine is an art that has to be done right.

[attr="class","appCATEGORY"]HISTORY

[attr="class","appFIELD"]Mintkit and Sunkit were polar opposites from the day they were born. One large and gray, while the other was tiny and golden in color. While Mintkit was cheerful and easy-going, Sunkit was fiery and ready to fight. Yet, despite this, nothing could come between the two toms. With a vacant father who had left the clan just before their birth the two toms were raised purely by their mother who constantly showered the two in affection. It was rare to see Silversong anywhere in the camp without her sons hot on her tail, following her every word.
It was a positive start that would come to end in ruin. Silversong had just been going out into the territory for a walk, promising the two toms that she would return only a short while later. The two eagerly sat at the edge of the nursery, awaiting her return. The day stretched on. Sunkit grew restless and started picking fights with other kits. Mintkit kept watching. The sun begun to sink toward the horizon. It was only as the first stars appeared that a shadow returned through the entrance, wounded and bleeding out.
With the word of a fox a patrol was dispersed to manage it. Mintkit and Sunkit could only watch in horror as Silversong collapsed, joining StarClan in the middle of the camp before the medicine cat could do anything to help. It was a blow that shocked both kits to their core as their one stability in life was ripped away; lost into the stars. While Sunkit went to cursing StarClan themselves, Mintkit simply wailed at the loss, struggling to process all that had happened so quickly.
It was in the aftermath, at the very back of the den, watching other kits with their mothers, which the two came to an agreement. They would train hard, until they felt ready. Then, they would track down the fox and make it pay for what it had done. It was a bold plan, a stupid one, but both toms committed to it.
They became Mintpaw and Sunpaw, and were placed under two capable warriors. For Mintpaw it came in the form of a strict and regimented she-cat, with a softness that came when she needed to. It was the teacher Mintpaw needed. Focused on his goal, the young tom was enthusiastic and keen to learn, still carrying a kit-like innocence in his movements and focus as questions bubbled from his lips. However, this is also when he developed his perfectionist streak – needing to prove to his mentor that he could do as she asked perfectly.
When he wasn’t with his mentor, Mintpaw was at Sunpaw’s side, training further wherever they could. They had a goal, and Mintpaw was sure they’d succeed – it was only what needed to be done to make things right in the world.
Were they ready when the scent of fox returned to the border? Hardly. But they were convinced that they were. At 10 moons old, with the report of the fox sighting hovering around the camp, the two apprentices set out in the dead of night to enact their grand plan. Anger and pride followed their pawsteps as they tracked the scent down.
It would end in disaster. For all their training, the fox was young and bold, immediately tearing into the two apprentices. They certainly left their marks on it, but, at their own costs. Sunpaw’s hind leg was snapped in the fox’s jaws, and the creature torn into Mintpaw’s chest and throat. It was only the moonhigh patrol, tracking them, that saved the two toms and took down the fox.
They were both lucky to survive, especially Mintpaw who hung on by only a thread. In the medicine cat’s den lecture after lecture came through, condemning their actions. Especially from their mentors. Their pelts were marred with scars, for Mintpaw across his throat and chest. Sunpaw would never properly recover from his broken leg, despite the medicine cat’s best efforts. Yet, it was the wake up call both of them needed. They had to focus on the future and what they could do to prevent anything like it happening again.
For Sunpaw, it meant returning to his training and focusing on the path of a warrior. For Mintpaw, it changed within the scents of the medicine cat’s den. A curious and patient cat, he took a fondness to the herbs and their uses, enough so that when he was fit enough to return to training, he would be offered the position as medicine cat apprentice, alongside StarClan’s sign indicating him.
It would prove to be the right path. Mintpaw threw himself into the new duties with his newfound passion to avoid fighting and harm to others. His patience and optimism only grew stronger, as did his alertness and analytical mind. Yet, with his good traits came a pedantic nature and an intolerance to failure. His mentor spent more than a few moons trying to pull him out of the attitude, before giving up. He had to get it right; for the sake of others.
Mintpaw’s passion for making things right was not a thing that changed however. If anything it grew stronger as he formed his bonds with other medicine cats. He wanted to help, and was always the first to offer herbs when needed. His morals would always come first, he reported to his disgruntled mentor. He watched Sunpaw become Sunsnap at 18 moons, and would eventually gain his own medicine cat name of Mintnose at 27 moons. For a few moons after, he watched his mentor’s health deteriorate, until the elderly cat retired to the elder’s den.
At 30 moons the den became Mintnose’s own, and since he has spent all his time supporting his clan in whatever ways he can.
