[attr="class","appCATEGORY"]PERSONALITY
[attr="class","appBAR"]
[attr="class","appFIELD"]Ever the social cat, hornetpaw is quite often seen talking to someone. He has a nickname for everyone and is not afraid to use them, even if some of them may not be so respectful. This tom hates to be alone and will actively look for someone to chat with when he has nothing to do or no one to be with. It's not that he's afraid to be alone or anything, he just gets soooooo bored.
This, in turn, means that he's confident in his own abilities and his personality, and is not afraid to show it. Sometimes his pride can seem to get in the way of relationships, and there wouldn't be any surprise if there is any bad blood between him and a few other cats in his clan, but generally, he's a fun cat to be around and there's never a boring moment in his presence.
Especially since he's a rather loud and opinionated cat. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and can get in any amount of verbal battles simply because he likes to piss other cats off. What? It's hilarious! Most insults roll off his fur anyway so what's the point in feeling offended? This is partly his way of controlling the others around him. While he appears confident, he's actually incredibly insecure. Perceiving that his parents ostracized him caused him to feel unloved by them and he turned to search for love elsewhere. Hence why he hates being alone and why he feels he needs to control those around him to some degree. By playing the devil's advocate.
He often lashes out in anger when told what to do by those he feels don't deserve his respect. Respect is very important to hornetpaw and is the pillar of all his relationships. You will get a lot less struggle from him if you earn his respect. Otherwise, he'll fight you tooth and nail. His parents, Russetpelt, and Honeyfoot lost his respect at a very young age. Even today he does not have a good relationship with them.
There is, however, some semblance of love in his heart. While odd to think about, hornetpaw is a hopeless romantic and will always love those closest to him, family he calls them, even if they stop loving him. They could never do anything that would make him stop loving them. Even if they break the warrior code, though he would be angry and hurt, he would never stop loving them. His family is his life, and he does whatever he can to spoil them. His time is often spent with them if he can, his hunting spoils are given to them, anything he can to be apart of their lives.
Despite his rather over dramatic mask of a personality, hornetpaw is a deep thinker and doesn't do anything without some semblance of thought. He can be serious and take situations very seriously when he needs to, instead taking on a more logical way of looking at things rather than the over dramatic emotional way he tends to show off. This mode is generally saved for occasions that he perceives to be incredibly important. like major events happening in the clan.
Which can often mean he's very perceptive of the behavior of other cats, and of his own emotions. While he over dramatizes them, he is not above putting his own feelings and emotions aside to see those of the other cat's around him. Especially those of his family.
StarClan and the warrior code are a strange thing to hornetpaw. While he is very picky about who he gives his respect to, this does not mean he gives respect on whether or not the warrior code is broken. He has respect for cats who have broken the code, and no respect or cats who follow the code and cross their "i"s and dot their "t"s. He doesn't know if he would break the code should the opportunity present itself, and if he truly needed to, then he wouldn't hesitate to do so. Especially if it is intended to protect his Clan or his family.
As for StarClan, he believes they exist, if only because his fellow clanmates do, but mostly he doesn't believe they have as much power as they claim to have. He has no care for them, just as they don't seem to have much care for him, hiding within the stars of the sky and only coming down to greet the medicine cat or the leader. Why should he give them much respect if they don't give any time or effort to him?
He would never say this out loud, of course, to start a fight about StarClan would probably be the death of him and he just honestly doesn't see the appeal or the worth in it.
Where do you go when it seems your parents don't love you? How do you respond? Act broken? Act like a victim? A failure? Even in all of his pain with his parents, his biggest fear is the loss of his those he considers family. His parents deserve punishment for taking something so beautiful away from him. To lose them or their view on love would tear him apart.

[attr="class","appCATEGORY"]HISTORY
[attr="class","appBAR"]
[attr="class","appFIELD"]She was sweet, young, and definitely easy to manipulate, Honeyfoot was. As an apprentice, even she knew that falling in love with one's mentor wasn't exactly what the clan had in mind. But she fell in love with him anyway and Russetpelt was satisfied with that. He waited for her to become a warrior before he began to manipulate his apparent love for her. It wasn't long before she became pregnant with kits. Two of them to be exact. Two little toms that she loved from the very beginning. but it was Russetpelt that began to pick favorites.
His mother's love wasn't what he wanted, no, because he already had that. It was Russetpelt that loved Tigerkit more than hornetkit. And no matter what the little kit did, Russetpelt never seemed to notice him. Until one day hornetkit attacked Tigerkit out of anger and jealousy, that was the first time Russetpelt even gave him a second glance. Three moons old and his father snapped at him with a sharp tongue filled with bitterness. hornetkit stumbled back in complete fear, terrified of the cat he was supposed to look up to.
But Russetpelt had found his lookalike and was proud of what the kit was growing up to be, hornetkit was simply a nuisance.
So he made himself a problem for Tigerkit. Roughhousing with him, joking with him, messing around with him, and the two grew to hate each other. Separated by the opinion of their own father. He could tell that Tigerkit thought he was the better of the two of them, and hornetkit refused to believe it.
What none of them realized was that the turmoil between the two kits was beginning to tear their mother apart. Honeyfoot was beginning to realize just how self-centered Russetpelt really was. But that didn't stop him from seeing Tigerkit and teaching him about the warrior code when Honeyfoot wasn't looking. hornetkit would watch from afar, desperate to learn what his brother was learning too. Desperate to be apart of his father's life. But he had no one to practice with and tigerkit wouldn't teach him anymore.
To say that hornetkit was excited to become an apprentice was a bit of an understatement. To say that he was ready to slip out from under the watchful and controlling eyes of his parents? Well, go figure. hornetpaw was floored when he met his mentor Stormshadow. A noble tom. Even though Stormshadow was firm with the young tom, hornetpaw grew to respect him.
Don't misunderstand, there were fights between them, where Stormshadow would have to attempt at controlling him, getting him to calm down, but they were never to the scale that he threw at Russetfur and Honeyfoot. It was like he purposefully made a show out of it to embarrass his parents. With Stormshadow he was mostly just honestly frustrated and would lash out in the anger he had grown to hide behind. It honestly wasn't difficult for Stormshadow to learn about how hornetpaw ticked, and how to calm him down. A lot of it had to do with simply letting him vent, letting him yell. And while he could not always lead hornetpaw away from the other members of the clan, the yelling began to calm the more Stormshadow was considered trustworthy.
hornetpaw would learn how to verbally process his struggles without the insistent yelling. He was still very prideful and was always up for trouble-making, but instead of resorting to lashing out in anger, he learned to seek out someone he could trust to be able to verbalize his concerns before they became built up anger. He also learned how to rationalize things logically rather than emotionally. Which was most definitely helpful in learning how to appear intimidating, while also appearing confident and keeping a clear head.
But his relationship with Tigerpaw didn't get any better. Especially with the fact that Russetpelt wasn't his mentor, to the disgruntlement of the deep red tom. There was a time where he thought Tigerpaw would actually give him the time of day, but that only turned into a disaster. hornetpaw's hatred for his brother began to disintegrate as the hatred for his father began to grow. Especially as Russetpelt's attention moved from Tigerpaw to see how hornetpaw was doing with his training.
It started with a comment from Russetpelt about how hornetpaw was struggling with his training, knowing that it was because of his anger and frustration. But the warrior was not ready for the teeth that dug into his shoulder and the claws that clung to his neck. It was not a killing bite, but an emotionally damaging one none-the-less. Russetpelt was careful with his words from then on. hornetpaw was not proud of his attempt at teaching his father a lesson, but he held no regrets, even as he was confined to the nursery and elder care for a time.
But then Honeyfoot tried to approach him, and while he did not outright attack her, he berated her bitterly. Hurt, pain and anger just swirling within his heart. His mother walked away hurt and afraid of him. But at the moment he didn't care. He no longer cared to try getting the attention of his parents. Stormshadow had replaced them in that father figure form.
Speaking of Stormshadow, this was the last cat to try coming to his rescue. And to hornetpaw's surprise, the older tom stood in a battle position, his tail lashing back and forth. "fight me." He said, but misunderstanding, hornetpaw hesitated. "For StarClan's sake hornetpaw, fight me." So he did, he attacked with all the strength he could muster, which wasn't much, and was soon laying in the dirt with his mentor's paw holding him down, gasping for breath in pain and exhaustion.
"Are you done yet?"
Tentatively and sluggishly, hornetpaw nodded without another word.
"Then go apologize to your parents, right now. They're heartbroken."
So he did. And it was one of the hardest things he'd ever had to do. His pride was great, even apologizing with an empty heart was terribly hard. But he did it. His mother accepted his apology, but his father did not. And then he walked away and didn't look back.
"Now you have to live with the consequences to your actions."
"I will always live with the consequences to my own actions, and I am ohkay with that. I do not regret attacking Russetpelt, although I do realize that I am responsible for hurting him and taking him away from his warrior duties, and I will take the punishment as needed."
"You have no remorse?"
"What? No! I said I have no regret! Do you think I don't mourn for my parents? I've been seeking their attention for moons and all I get is anger because I can't be the cat they want me to be! I am not proud of what I did, but I do not regret it!"
"Perhaps your relationship with them would change if you treated them with more respect?"
"They don't deserve my respect."
The conversation was over, but the pain didn't go away.
about a moon later stormshadow died in a fight with a badger. tearing away everything hornetpaw knew about what a father/son relationship was supposed to look like. and tearing away the only cat who seemed to understand what he needed.
