[attr="class","boatpict"] [attr="class","boatwrapt"] [attr="class","boatscrollt"]it had been another one of those days for mistfall. he had somehow stressed himself out with all the happenings of daily clan life, which held a lot more importance to him nowadays than it had before. ever since his… promotion, to say the least, mistfall had kicked it into high gear. there were things that needed to be done and he was going to be the one to do them, it was just in his nature.
or, maybe it wasn’t?
why wouldn’t it be?, the high strung tom wondered to himself as he moved through the forest. his paws took light steps, crossing over dead leaves and fragmented pieces of twigs and branches - he barely made a sound but that was what mistfall was all about.
he had wanted to do a patrol of sorts, all by himself, in order to decompress after the day's excitement so taking a late-night stroll was the easiest route to take. truthfully, he didn’t quite know why he felt so constricted - he had already been an overachiever as a warrior. being named deputy didn’t make much of a difference, but even then he felt a new weight on his shoulders with the title. either way, he wanted to take a night to be alone.
coming out of his thoughts with a full-bodied shake, mistfall got himself together with a that’s enough of that and kept pushing on. he came unto a clearer area, noticing the way the rapidly darkening sky completely skipped over it. the large oak trees he was so familiar with quickly became sparse but the highest points seemed to turn in to create a patterned canopy above him and the grass held nothing but well, grass. a clearing, he thought, perfect. he decided that this would be a good spot to break and calm himself until he deemed it time to return to camp, but as he closed in on the area, mistfall quickly noticed a white figure had already beat him to it. with his suspicions arose, mistfall broke into a trot but still maintained secrecy - until he had finally recognized just exactly who he had come across. he’d be able to spot his own pelt pattern anywhere.
of all the things i expected to see tonight, he began once he was in close range to the she-cat, i didn’t think it would be you, dewspark. his voice took on a bland tone, sounding as if he couldn’t be bothered to have this interaction at all, which wasn’t out of the norm for him. as he stared down at her totally relaxed position, completely on her back with the biggest expression of contentment he had ever seen, he couldn’t help but envy it a bit - but that feeling quickly dissipated as a new thought crossed his mind. with slightly narrowed eyes, mistfall gave the question don’t you have other things you could be doing besides… this? he was fairly sure she should have been settling to sleep, but he knew his sister was always up to no good.
[attr="class","boatbottomt"] hehehe are u ready for mist to just lay it on her? >:D

The most annoying thing that Dewspark could think of was being in charge of a clan. The second most annoying thing was being related to someone who was in charge. Mistfall had flung himself into his job almost immediately. If she didn't love him as much as she did, she'd have clonked on the head to get him to just get him to relax. Where had that fun older brother gone? Now he was just so uptight, barking orders and, in general, being a huge nuisance; at least to her, that was. When Mistfall had been named deputy, she - as the kind and dutiful younger sister she was - had gone up to congratulate him on his promotion. At first, she had thought that maybe with this new promotion the adventures they could go on would have a different tint to it: meeting the other leaders, chatting with others from different Clans... The list just went on and on! But, as unfortunate as it was, he had decided to not use this promotion in order to benefit the quest for new knowledge and, instead, devoting all of his time to "bettering ThunderClan" as she had heard. After awhile, she gave up in trying to get him to come out and explore with her. And, if she was being honest, she was hurt. It had been at least a couple weeks since they had last seen each other, let alone talked. The one who used to be her partner in crime now felt like a distant acquaintance. Feeling down trodden and alone, Dewspark had begun to take to heading out at night to watch the stars. The bittersweet feeling of loneliness always changed to a sense of peace whenever she star-gazed. She had figured out the perfect timing to head out: when the other ThunderClanners were drowsy and sharing tongues during sundown. She had found the perfect spot: a clearing a ways away from the main camp, surrounded by looming trees. If she timed it right, her stargazing would also be accompanied by a couple owls hooting into the night. As was her routine, she had slipped out of the camp, her ears prick and her steps light; this time had become her favorite moment, the one that she would look forward to everything single time. As she walked deeper into ThunderClan territory, Dewspark kept her attention focused on her pawsteps. Around her, she could hear the skittering of squirrels and voles, scampering away from the big bad warrior. She made it to the clearing without a single incident and she took in a deep breath, a loud purr rumbling in her chest. This was perfect. She settled down on the ground, belly up, and got comfortable, her eyes already flickering to the night sky to watch as the stars came out. Just as the first few stars began to prick the sky, she heard her brother's voice. For a second, she wondered if she was just hallucinating it and she furrowed her brows in confusion. Though as she twisted her head, she let out a groan as she saw him standing there. Her time was ruined, now that he had appeared, and so she got to her paws, glowering at him the whole time. For a moment, she let the silence hang over them, as she took her time to smooth down the fur on her chest. " What, now that you're deputy you can't say a simple hello? It's just straight to arguing with you, isn't it?" she responded, flashing him a bitter smile. " I would've expected a much more amicable greeting from the great and mighty Mistfall." Dewspark gave a theatrical dip of her head, bobbing her head from side to side with a flourish. As someone who had grown up with him, she could read him like a book; he was clearly displeased with her, even though his voice was as monotonous as always. Letting out a huff and rolling her eyes at his jab, she said, " Bold of you to assume that there's anything else to do. It may shock you to hear this, but sometimes it's nice to just relax. You should try it sometimes, you clearly need it." As she spoke, Dewspark padded closer to him, keeping her gaze on him, before pushing past him. He was acting as though nothing had happened, that everything was just fine and dandy. And it infuriated her that he didn't show some kind of emotion other than complete stoicism. Did he just not care anymore?

[attr="class","boatpict"] [attr="class","boatwrapt"] [attr="class","boatscrollt"]another thing he hadn’t expected that night, his sister’s flaming attitude. he was confused with her sarcastic words as he hadn’t meant to start anything, but then again mistfall didn’t do much to try and shift his intonation.
instead of staying silent as he watched his sister continue her verbal bashing of him, mistfall was quick to hiss down at her in a scoff. there’s always things to be done - and if you paid more attention, you’d know that. in his split moment of thought, mistfall didn’t catch his sister's rise from her resting spot. it was only until he felt the sharp jab of her shoulder against his side that he was dragged back into the present, and it was jarring.
e-excuse m- dewspark! he spluttered after his sister, slightly appalled at her behavior. he was shocked, to say the least, at her blatant show of disrespect to not only his standing, but as a family member. her words clawed at his consciousness - he had been acting terribly to her. no, he hadn’t been acting in any way towards her at all because he had pushed her out of his mind as soon as he added the title deputy onto his long list of accomplishments.
somehow, someway, being in dewspark’s presence had always caused more drama than anything else. even from the beginning, as he remembered his legendary tumble from that great oak all mistfall could focus on was dewspark’s provocation - her jeering voice from above, goading him into climbing that stupid tree. after all these years, mistfall still believed that that entire predicament had partially been her fault, though he recognized his own wrongdoings.
still, dewspark had started it. it was only right for him to finish it, yes?
with gritted teeth and totally flattened ears, he quickly shifted on his paws to watch her retreating back into the forest, but mistfall wasn’t done with her yet. dewspark, it had only been her name but his voice had taken on a much more authoritative tone with it - easily letting her know that he wasn’t going to stand by and allow this behavior, even if it was from a relative. his fur stood on end but he kept himself steady. you’re being childish and you know it
he sprung into action, moving quickly to try and intercept his sibling before she had completely disappeared into the treeline. they were facing each other now, there was nothing left to hide. if you have an issue, voice it - he sneered, if you can slew abuse at me while lounging on your back, then i'm sure you can express whatever is making your heart so cold towards me. mistfall then stepped back a bit, recomposing himself in seconds while still preparing himself for whatever his sister was to do next, and gave her more than enough room to burst if she felt the need to.
despite him coming to the wood to relieve himself of his daily pressures, mistfall had quickly become just as tense as he had been before. as a high standing cat amongst his clan, he wasn’t going to just allow her to speak to him in such a manner; but as her brother, a completely different entity in his mind, mistfall wanted her to tell him her woes. he knew he had been slacking in concerns to his family -he knew that- but he be damned if he allowed it to shatter whatever relationship he had left with his beloved littermate.

Oh, he did not just use his deputy voice at her. Fury made her freeze and tense up, her fur fluffing out. " I'm the one being childish? You know, I never knew that you had a sense of humor!" She spun around on her heels to face him, eyes blazing. For a moment, her words caught in her throat and now she was the one left spluttering. " You are just so-! Ugh, you make me so mad!" Her tail lashed as she stared him down, her eyes flickering over his face, trying to gauge his reasoning in continuing this argument. He wanted to hear her issues with him? OK, fine she'd find her voice and let him have it. She stalked back up to him, ears flat and head raised, until she was back in his face. For just a moment, she stared into him, trying to find a glimmer of her older brother. All she found was a cold husk of who he used to be. Dewspark jabbed his chest with her paw. Now that he had asked the question, all her irritation spilled out, her words running together in a tirade. " My issue is that you've become so addicted to this stupid rank that this is the first time in weeks that we've had a conversation! And what's the first thing you do? Immediately start antagonizing me." She slammed her paw on the ground; it infuriated her that nothing she seemed to do was right for him. She just wasn't good enough for him, was she? " Do you know how many times I've tried to spend time with you? I even offered to go on a patrol - I offered out of my own volition to go on a patrol. Oh, but...how did you respond?" Dewspark feigned confusion, her eyes widening, as she leaned closer to him. Dropping her tone, she pantomimed Mistfall's voice, " 'I can't right now. I'm too busy.'" She leaned back, squeezing her eyes shut, her tail swishing to her left. It seemed like he had refused to even look at her. Returning to her normal tone, her voice cracked, as she whispered out, " And that was even if I got a response at all. Do you know how many times I've heard that excuse from you, ever since you became deputy?" Her gaze was now on the ground, as though it would reveal all and she could understand his mind. Then she let out a mirthless bark of a laugh and shook her head, taking a couple steps back. Dewspark watched him, before shaking her head again. " No, of course you don't, do you? You're always so busy" Her voice was quiet. Despite how close they were, it felt like they were a chasm apart. She was just tired now. Of course, she had other issues with him, but this one had been the one to bubble up the quickest. All she wanted was to have her brother back, the one who she could rely on. The one who wanted to spend time with her. And it hurt that the cat standing before her deigned to look like Mistfall. Because her Mistfall wouldn't act like this.

[attr="class","boatpict"] [attr="class","boatwrapt"] [attr="class","boattopt"] dewspark ⥇ 1,232 [attr="class","boatscrollt"]it wouldn’t be a lie to say that, in that exact moment, mistfall hadn’t become extremely frightened of his sister. she had turned on him so quickly, all puffed out like an angry white ball of fury flying towards him at top speed - and she had only just turned around. she had gotten so close to his face that he could just see the steam leaving her ears at his previous words. he knew then that he was definitely in for it now, but as usual his eyes held nothing to show for it.
as she spat her venomous words at him, all mistfall could do was sit and stare at her with his cold unwavering gaze - not even flinching that much at the feeling of her paw digging into his chest. he felt heat bubbling within his throat, a growl if anything, but suppressed it quickly enough so that it wouldn’t be able to escape his jaws. the control he had over himself at that moment was more stressful than anything he had experienced in the past moon. but the fact that he wouldn’t so easily give in to his primal urge to pounce or charge showed just how much he had shielded himself from everything else - to be able to sit and face an adversary without so much of a heavy breath.
though he wouldn’t lie, her words were affecting him. had he been so blind? to him, his position was of utmost importance even if it did separate him from others. he didn’t mind being by himself, just as long as he was carrying out his duties to the best of his ability - it was in his wiring to work hard. but even then, as his sister was seemingly pouring her heart out as per his request, mistfall couldn’t bring himself to step into her paws.
offered to patrol, that’s your job! it shouldn’t matter if i’m present or not he challenged, gaining some sort of momentum at her sad words. what she said had poked a hole in his harsh exterior, but not one big enough to shatter it. he continued, oh do you want me to step down? to cater to you because you’re lonely? it was unbelievable - mistfall hadn’t worked his tail off just to give up his title because his sister missed him. he quickly realized that there would be no reasoning or changing her mind, dewspark was dead set on it. she had mocked him, not atypical for her personality, but it had only worked to deflate whatever anger he had left for his sister. seeing her in such a position, backing away from him as if he was a pile of foxdung - not even looking at him, caused his heart to ache wildly, for his blood standing before him, for her.
ivystar had high expectations for him, as her deputy, and mistfall was sure she wouldn’t appreciate it if he spent all of his time gallivanting around with his sister - for whatever reason. he cared about what she thought of him, it was important, and his thought process had always been if i have to sacrifice some things in order to keep a good image in my leader’s eyes then so be it. but maybe that course of action had been wrong.
even if mistfall still had a few more quips to toss out at dewspark, he allowed her woes to melt into his mind for a few beats of time before slowly lowering his head, just as she did.
it’s hard - he murmured, head hanging low with his tail curling inwards between his hind paws. he hadn’t been broken down just yet, as his eyes still held that familiar cold gleam within them, but even then he knew that he didn’t have a solid argument to combat all of the truths his sister had been speaking. sitting under such a revered leader. believe it or not, it’s the most difficult thing i’ve ever had to do besides abandon you he kept going, adding on to his sad excuses but still sheltering whatever real thought he had.
for some reason, mistfall couldn’t keep his eyes leveled with dewspark’s - an act of cowardice on his part, but any outsider would be able to tell that he was submitting to her strength. it’s a shit excuse but it’s the only one i can give you, and that was the truth. he just wasn’t capable, in that moment, to lay out all of his personal issues for her to see - it just wasn’t the way he worked. but it didn't matter; dewspark was the center of attention for him right now. she was lonely without him despite her floating around the camp and engaging with others, he had seen her at work - it was completely alien to him.
as he stood there, refusing to make eye contact and hiding himself away like a scared little kit, mistfall understood where her issues had all risen from. he had neglected not only his littermate, but the rest of his family as well. snowstep was always trying to be involved but mistfall shunned her too - never in a rude manner, of course. he was just simply busy. in truth, he loved his family. he loved them so much that he wanted the best for them - he wanted to be the best for them - no matter the cost of it all. however, he was rich in everything but what they needed.
as he realised it, mistfall knew that if he said his thoughts aloud he would probably be met with more fire from the already furious she-cat before him - and he would hate to have to physically fight with his sister, it would absolutely annihilate whatever was left of their familial bonds - so he opted for something a bit unusual for his character.
without a glance in her direction, the tom simply moved around the steaming she-cat and stepped far enough into the clearing so that he was sat right beneath a broken part of the dark canopy above. soft light from the burgeoning stars lit what other parts of the clearing were uncovered, offering just a bit of comfortable ambience. dewspark had only wanted to be present with her brother, had only wanted to hang out with him - to do the things she wanted to do, fun things, with her twin in tow. and so, mistfall felt it necessary to prioritize her wants, to show that he was willing to begin to men what he had demolished all those moons ago. if it was stargazing his sister wanted, well then he would give it to her.
come sit with me sister he softly called, still without looking towards her, please. he was pleading, no, begging for her to let go and just sit with him - just like she had seemingly always wanted to. and while he wouldn’t be laying on his back or relaxing his shoulders for it - as that would be asking too much of him - for now, mistfall would just sit in his sibling’s presence and just gaze. it wasn’t going to fix things, of course, but maybe it would be a start or else they might as well burn their shared bridge right then and there.
[attr="class","boatbottomt"] hehe i cried a bit writing this bc i overwhelmed myself with his mindset but either way i hope you enjoy reading this book i just wrote for you <3 (also i hope this flows well, if i keep editing it'll stretch past 1300 words and that's just too much omg)

She would be lying if she said she wasn't hurt by his barbed words. Him “catering” to her, felt as though she was a blubbering kit, sobbing to her brother that she needed his help. She didn’t need him to be around her every day, but would it kill him to spend at least some time with her? He acted as though she wasn’t worth even a glance and that hurt. The knot in her stomach grew and her anger flickered out as he ducked his head, his words just above a whisper. She had never seen him like that. Guilt began gnawing at her, making her throat tighten, as she took in a deep breath. For a moment, the two siblings stared at each other and time seemed to tick down to a crawl. They had been so close when they were young; is this what happened when siblings got older: biting and snapping when one stepped just a little bit out of bounds, arguing at any possible time? It now hit her that she wasn't the only one who was hurting; all that weight on Mistfall's shoulders, ones that had always seemed strong and ready to hold up any challenge's weight, seemed to push them down. For once, Dewspark saw her brother as someone who was just tired. Tired from everything that was expected of him, tired of needing to be on top of everything every day. When he finally broke eye contact from her and began to move around her, she opened her mouth, his name choking in her throat. Fear clenched at her heart at her realization of how her words had hit him. During this entire argument, she had been the one who had lashed out the hardest. And he had taken it, with his stoic expression. For a second, she was sure that he was about to walk away, however... he stayed and asked for her to sit with him. She swallowed, her throat aching from her raised voice and watched him for a bit. With his back turned and as he gazed up at the sky, he looked like the picture-perfect image of their dad. Blinking away the ghost of that image, Dewspark slowly padded up beside him, expecting him to just disappear. She didn't lay down, like before, when the argument had started, and, instead, she sat beside him. Silence fell upon them as the two siblings stared at the sky. An aching memory surfaced, and she took a shuddering breath, her eyes closed. " Do you remember dad taking us outside the camp the night after our apprentice ceremony?" She asked, her voice ragged. " he was so proud of us, despite the fact it was such a normal ceremony, I swear I saw Hailstorm yawning." A choked laugh escaped her throat, before she turned somber again. " He took us to this field and had us watch the stars for what seemed like hours. No talking, of course. Just being." Dewspark glanced over her shoulder, expecting to see the three of them, laying there, two little carbon copies of a large warrior, staring up at the sky; she was disappointed in seeing nothing but the present. " That's the sharpest memory I have of him," she admitted. Her shoulders slumped and her voice was a murmur, as she continued, " I'm terrified that, soon, I'm going to have to rely on memories to experience anything positive with you." Desperate for him to understand, she turned towards him, her eyes wide. " I never considered how tough it would be to fill in the void that Seedblossom left when she died. I thought that you would be able to handle everything without ever breaking a sweat and I was furious when I realized you couldn't." Dewspark swallowed, before pushing out her next words, " When we were younger, I idolized you. You were the bigger brother who always knew what to do and could figure his way out of a situation without batting an eye. But then as I grew up, I realized that you were just a fallible as I was and am." She took a deep breath, staring at his paws instead of his face. " I was unfair for despising that you weren't the perfect brother I had in my head." Now that she had spoken it aloud, it felt as though something had unlocked within her and she began to plead. " Please, I don't care what I have to do. I don't want to keep arguing with you; I miss spending time with you." She met his blue gaze with her own, desperation clear in her voice. She was ready to throw everything away so that she could be by Mistfall's side again, laughing and joking like they used to. " I understand that Ivystar asked, asks, and will ask a lot from you and I understand that since you're Seedblossom's successor as deputy, there's a lot riding on you. But I just wish..." Here, she trailed off, not knowing how to put this feeling into words and left it hanging in the air. Because what she wanted made no sense; she didn't want Mistfall to lose his deputy-ship since he had worked tirelessly for it, but she also didn't want him to be so wrapped up in the duties he had to perform. Was it selfish of her to demand that they both be possible? Looking at Mistfall and just how exhausted he was, perhaps both from what was required of him as someone in a position of power and also from this argument, she figured that it was. But she so desperately wanted her brother back it made her ache; their older brother and father were gone and she would refuse to let Mistfall go just as quickly.

[attr="class","boatpict"] [attr="class","boatwrapt"] [attr="class","boatscrollt"]suffice to say, mistfall was surprised to hear his sister sit beside him on the grass. he had full faith that she was going to scorn him and abandon him, just as he did to her - but she didn’t. she wasn’t the type to leave her kin behind in times of need, a trait that mistfall didn’t seem to share. he kept his eyes amongst the stars, mostly out of embarrassment and guilt, but also because he was aware that breaking their fragile silence would force him to expose more of his deep thoughts and he had already done enough of that for the night.
instead of him, dewspark was the one to speak once more, recalling an old memory of their father - a memory that had situated itself in the depths of mistfall’s consciousness. I remember he forced out, lowering his gaze from the sky. his ears twitched as she continued, expressing her fears to him. he had wanted them to enjoy their first night as apprentices, as future warriors of their clan. the stars were bright that night, he added in as an afterthought. just thinking about that night made his heart ache even more, as it was really the last bit of quality time the twins had with their father before he passed. it was then that he turned to face her again, giving a slight flinch as she had quickly done the same. I’ll never truly be able to replace seedblossom… I can only try my best to live up to her memory, and mistfall had believed that that was what he had been doing - but he’d gotten it all wrong.
don’t feel wrong for having expectations; i’m your littermate, i should be the one person you can come to whenever you feel like it. i just… - mistfall trailed off for a moment to take a breath. i understand. i understand that you wish i had done more? that i had tried harder to balance my duties to both my family and the clan? he muttered, attempting to fill in the blank she had left. yeah, i wish i had as well. and he never really tried because he didn’t think it was that important - a clear lack in judgment on his part. but ahem… everything that occurs has a reason, though. he began, breaking off their eye contact as he began to feel uncomfortable again. we were once connected at the hip and despite your negative feelings towards it, i feel like our prolonged separation was necessary for development.
he hoped it was a valid explanation for his absence, though not a full one. he began to distance himself after the death of their father and in turn, he was able to accomplish many things in that short span of time, and he was proud of what he had done even at the expense of his relationship with his family. dewspark had grown into a respectable warrior, even with her weird antics, and mistfall was glad to share a bloodline with her. i know you’ve hated it, but we’ve done so much for ourselves in our time apart, dew. he tried; maybe there were a few positives somewhere in this messy thicket. father would be proud, i think. despite my bad actions and our personal issues.
[attr="class","boatbottomt"] sorry it took so long omg ily i hope this is good enough for our beautiful twins ;-;

When Mistfall had turned towards her, a spark of hope made her ears prick; had she gotten through to him? Was the old brother returning? Though at his comment of necessity, her ears drooped, and she withdrew into herself again. “ Necessary for me or for you?” She asked sullenly, wrapping her tail closer to herself. She had hoped that maybe touching upon something emotional, because it did seem as though it struck a chord with Mistfall as it still did with her, maybe it would snap him out of it. But as he continued speaking, it was clear that he was trying to intellectualize their experiences again. ’Reason for everything,’ she snorted to herself, turning her head away from him. The previous spark of irritation made her flex her paws against the ground, unsheathing her claws and digging them in. It felt as though the twins were in their own little bubble of passive aggressiveness and anger, the world around them was at peace as this sibling spat continued. She could feel the little dewdrops from the previous night’s rainstorm cool against her heated pads. Dewspark flicked at them, trying to ignore what Mistfall was saying in a sullen fit of passivity. However, it wasn’t until his nickname for her made her whirl around, eyes wide and ears drawn back. “ You don’t get to call me ‘Dew’ after everything, Mistfall.” She had wanted her words to be strong and firm, but they ended up coming out cracked and breaking. If he thought that by using that old nickname she’d let this go and see “the positives,” as he clearly wanted to do, then they had been apart for longer than he expected. She knew that this was childish and that she should just hear him out, but the way he was talking about their father had her gulping loudly. “ Your memory of him is falling apart, Mistfall.” She got to her paws and gestured over the area where the three of them had star watched all those moons ago, before continued, “ he would’ve been furious at both of us that we’ve been so far apart.” It was another desperate attempt to persuade her twin, to get him back, and she knew that – if it was anyone else other than Mistfall she would’ve given up on them a long time ago. But he was her brother, that had to mean something, right? “ Please don’t sully dad’s memory just to placate your guilt,” she begged him, taking a few steps away. In a mutter, she added, “ He’d know what to do.” Usually the sadness and loneliness from losing their father came in predictable waves; if she came across a place where he liked to bring either them, separately or together, a sudden ache would come over her and she would have to sit down and take gulps of air as it passed over her. But now it came to her in the form of feeling faint and exhausted, like she had just spent a moon quietly crying to herself. She closed her eyes to keep herself steady, before opening them again and taking a deep breath. “ He wouldn’t be proud, Mistfall. He’d be disappointed in both of us.” mistfall | hello and welcome to lorne’s and bee’s thread of putting their twins through emotional conversations!!! Everything’s fine.
