conscientious; a tom with a set of morals, this cat answers to no one other than his higher-ups and the clan’s unbreakable rules — the warrior code. egretfeather lives by the code and dies by it, and in fact, he could probably even recite it if you asked him to. he firmly believes that a true warrior does what is right no matter what the circumstance or who is watching, and he holds himself to honesty and integrity above all else.
patriotic (loyal); as said above, egret lives by one thing alone - the warrior code. even though he doesn’t care for making deep individual connections with his clanmates, he cares greatly for the well-being and image of his clan as a whole, and is extremely loyal to it. he holds his clan to a high standard and takes great pride in being a warrior, and will do whatever he believes will strengthen or aid the clan. if it came down to it, he would even die for his peers.
proactive; “actions speak louder than words”: that is another thing that egretfeather lives by. he believes that sitting there and fantasizing about what you’re going to do or talking through a situation won’t get anybody anywhere; instead, egret turns his little words into action. he finds life useless if you sit down and pine over what you want to do rather than going out and doing it.
N E G A T I V E
stoic; egretfeather is a rather apathetic cat. to him, jumping with joy or wallowing in distress does nothing but waste time — and he hates wasting time. but, even if he acts as though he hates everything and doesn’t want anything to do with fun, deep down he is a soft boi™ and actually greatly appreciates if a cat makes his day memorable (even though he’d never admit it).
taciturn; if you were to speak to him for even a few seconds, you would immediately be able to tell that egret is a tom of little words. it may even feel like you’re talking to a brick wall. his sentences cut off short, and he very obviously makes you feel like he has more important business to attend to (which he doesn’t, not really). the only matters that interest him are clan issues (and a certain food... if you can figure it out ;>).
unforgiving; egretfeather is a very moralistic cat — if he holds himself to be true to his word, then he expects that another cat does the same. if you happen to wrong him or get on his bad side, you’ll have to work extremely hard to get back off of it.
(tldr; he is a big grumpy boi who acts like he hates everything and only cares about clan duties, but deep down he’s a huge softy and actually loves rolling around in grass and having a good time — even though he’d absolutely h a t e to show it)

• 42 moons ago : three healthy kits — egretkit, magpiekit, and dovekit — are born.
• 36 moons ago : the kits are now named egretpaw, magpiepaw, and dovepaw, and are given mentors.
• 30 moons ago : a ceremony is held, and the apprentices are given their new names. ospreynose and swanleap are badly injured in a border skirmish with shadowclan, and are retired to elders.
• 13 moons ago : illness sweeps across the clans; sadly, ospreynose and swanleap are affected. ospreynose passes first.
• 12 moons ago : after weeks of holding on, swanleap grows extremely weak and passes from illness.
I N - D E P T H
𓅰 ospreynose and swanleap had fallen in love not long after being named warriors. although they never cared for PDA, it was quite obvious how much they adored one another. both held the same ideals and admiration for their clan, and every warrior could tell you that the two were basically inseparable. though, as time went by, the two felt the constant pressure and pleas of clanmates telling them to “slow down and start a family,” and thus decided to give being “family cats” a try.
𓅰 the two seasoned warriors had their first and only litter later on in warriorhood. the two had given in and figured that they would have to settle down eventually, and what better way to keep the bloodline going than to have little pipsqueaks to leave behind a “legacy” with? and so, swanleap soon gave birth to three wonderful kittens: egret, magpie and dove. (since both parents had bird-related names, they decided to keep the tradition going).
𓅰 egretkit had been born first, a big, quiet kitten who popped out looking like a snowball. soon after came magpiekit, who was the loudest and most restless one of the bunch. and then followed dovekit, the youngest and the runt of the litter, who seemed to fidget at the slightest noise. both parents took one look at the kits and immediately fell in love, spending the first few moons fawning over the newest additions to the clan.
𓅰 as time went on and the kittens began approaching apprenticeship, duty called their parents back to their former lives. tensions were high between TC and SC, and being the devoted cats that they were, ospreynose and swanleap were always the first two marked down for patrol. this left egretkit, magpiekit and dovekit to their own devices, having to rely on each other for emotional and physical support — with the help of one or two nursery queens, of course.
𓅰 figuring that he was the only sensible one of the trio, egret took charge whenever his parents were away (which was 75% of the time) and assumed the role of babysitting two mousebrained little sisters (according to him). the three were inseparable just like their parents were; any cat would tell you that egretkit was always following after dovekit who was almost always being dragged into mischief by magpiekit — it was like they were always marching in a line to go find themselves in trouble. and whenever magpie got into trouble, which she always did, he was there to bail her out of it. likewise, whenever dove was in the middle of being pranked or bullied by another cat, then egret was there to bring it to a close.
𓅰 moons came and went, and egret and his sisters became apprentices. egret, feeling proud of both himself and his siblings, sat in quiet excitement as he was given a mentor, brindleheart, and his brand new name, egretpaw. this day was a joyous day for him, especially because his parents had finally made time to watch he and the girls be named apprentices. he promised himself that he’d be a great warrior just like his parents were, and that began with waking up early everyday to train his hardest with brindleheart, no matter how much he absolutely hated it.
𓅰 apprenticeship sailed by, and training came easily to him. although egret barely had any time to spend with his younger sisters anymore, when he had the time he never failed to check up on how they were doing — after all, he was their big brother; even if they had mentors, they probably couldn’t keep the girls in line like egret could. and as always he barely ever got to say a word in his parents direction, with how constantly busy they were. over time, though, his mentor slowly began growing on him. brindleheart was pushy, always asked about egret’s well-being, and was overly optimistic about way too many things — which egret was 80% of the time annoyed with and could never understand. egretpaw’s mentor also always felt the need to drag him out of the den during his naps and take him on some long walk to talk about life lessons — egret never really saw the point in it, but he figured that brindleheart had noticed that his parents were not always around and probably figured that it was his duty to raise egret into a worthy warrior. after all, brindleheart was his mentor, and that was (somewhat) his job. even if it often got annoying, and even though egret thought of himself as perfectly able to build his own character, he appreciated the care that the tom never failed to give. it was something that egret had never gotten with his own father, spare the awkward times when they would play “catch-up“ with eachother. regardless, the warrior had grown on him and had even began turning into somewhat of a father figure to egretpaw, and even though egret never really showed his gratitude for the tom, he did his best in training and worked hard to make up for it.
𓅰 moons fly past again, and now the clan cats are seated under the high rock for the long-awaited warrior ceremony. once again, their parents were unable to attend due to some “business,” as usual.. but it didn’t necessarily matter, because the ones who mattered most were seated next to him. egret sits close beside his sisters, all three of them flashing excited glances at eachother, awaiting to be named. “feather” is the suffix fittingly given to him, mirroring the way he swiftly carries himself despite growing into a large, stocky tom. cats mew in congratulations while his siblings and mentors share kind words between eachother, and after the excitement of the ceremony, he is taken to the warriors den... only to receive news — bad news.
𓅰 during the warrior ceremony, ospreynose and swanleap had been caught in a border skirmish between shadowclan. egret’s dull eyes glazed over and his heart dropped... what a way to end the night, huh? thankfully, though, the warriors were only badly injured and not killed. despite that fact, it had sent his heart into a whirl; egretfeather kicked himself into overdrive, working on patrol and hunts to make up for the gap placed by his parents’ absence. on the bright side, now that they were warriors, he had more time to catch up with his sisters; while their parents recovered, the kin grew just as close as they were as kits. magpie never really took her duties seriously, which never failed to annoy egretfeather, and dove was her usual self — trying to be the best warrior she could be, but lacking the firm character to do so. the two always made egret feel like he was stuck babysitting one way or another.
𓅰 ospreynose and swanleap were sadly retired to elders as their wounds were too grave, and spent most of their days together in the elders den. even in old age, they seemed inseparable. not having to focus so much on warrior duty allowed them to get out and spend much needed catch-up time with their kin. dove, being the sweetheart she was, fully dedicated herself to aiding their parents and rebuilding their lost relationship. magpie and egret, however, were reluctant to regain animosity with their parents, given how much time they had basically felt like strangers to them. over time, however, they let themselves loose and became close... things stayed comfortable, until moons later, when illness struck the clan.
𓅰 in the first wave, their father had grown too weak and passed. their mother had been holding on strong, though she was heavily stricken with grief. a moon later, after struggling to recover, their mother grew extremely weak and passed as well.
𓅰 egret, magpie, and dove were devastated. moons of being strangers and then being able to reforge a broken relationship... only to have misfortune make its rounds and ruin everything. his parents had once again left him, but this time, it was permanent. the memories of their early kit days, though so long ago, felt fresh. the past few moons of newfound love between the family felt like a fever dream. over the weeks that followed, it was visible in how his siblings acted that the event had shaken them... dove became quieter, magpie became more irritated, and egret became more reclusive. though, despite this shortcoming, the three of them tried their hardest to remain the same.
𓅰 egret, though feeling resentment towards his parents for leaving him to glue back the family once again, figured that wasting time with anger and grief wasn’t going to fix the past, or change the future — all it did was waste time. and as the oldest (and only) brother, the last thing his little sisters needed was for him to sit there and wallow like a kit. thus, egretfeather silently vowed to continue doing what his parents would’ve wanted — dedicate himself to the clan. and as long as StarClan was above them watching, that’s exactly what he was going to do.
