In the dark of the night, a dream comes.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
It is dark, and the air is cold.
The ground is barren, and in the distance the wails of cats echo.
The sun is black, a ring of fire all that remains.
Stepping forward, a patchwork tom with fear in his eyes. It’s Gorsepelt, and he does not meet Sparrowflight’s eyes as he approaches. Often he has agonized over whether he made the correct decision in naming the young tom medicine cat. For better or for worse, however, it was the reality. He hoped Sparrowflight would be strong enough to support RiverClan in what was coming. Finally, he lifted his gaze, and spoke with a voice of thousands.
“Darkness is coming and ruin will follow.
All four clans will face destruction.
But this does not need mean our doom.
Four paws will lead the way to our salvation.”
His gaze falls, and soon there is only darkness once again.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ Sparrowflight is unsure where he is, but he already has a bad feeling. The very earth itself seems dead, and there is something wrong with the sun. Even in his ventures into the mountains, he had never seen anything like it. Then from the distance, Gorsepelt appeared, and Sparrowflight couldn’t help stiffening with apprehension. He could see the confliction on Gorsepelt’s face, and remembered the doubts he’d expressed during Sparrowflight’s first sleep at the Moonstone. Then came the prophecy, and Sparrowflight’s blood chilled. He awoke with a start, gasping awake and jerking onto his feet. For a long moment, he didn’t know where he was, trying to figure out where in the caves he had fallen asleep before realizing no…no, he was in RiverClan. In his den. With a shiver, he started to pace, trying to sort out what he’d just seen. Darkness and ruin….destruction…salvation. He took a deep breath, then left his den. It was still long before the dawn patrol, and few seemed to be stirring in the night. Trying his best to look undisturbed, he briskly walked to Lionstar’s den. “Lionstar?” he hissed, poking his head inside. He knew he wasn’t exactly Lionstar’s favorite cat…and he doubted she’d be too happy about him disturbing her sleep. But he didn’t think this was something that could wait. ooc: Sparrowflight tries to sneak through camp without raising any alarm, to find ❈Lionstar .

Lionstar For the past quarter moon, Lionstar had been restless. Tossing and turning in her nest, trying desperately to drift into sleep. Her mind was clouded with doubt and worry. Grief clawed at her heart. She missed Dimstar, and a part of her feared that she couldn't lead RiverClan nearly as well as the wise, old she-cat did.
It seemed far too soon to lose her. Not now. Not when Lionstar felt like she still required more guidance and training from her former leader, who became her dearest friend in this life. They formed a strong, and solid partnership; both she-cats had lead RiverClan together for many moons.
She would not let it get to her, she couldn't. Diligence. She had to lead the clan with diligence. It was Dimstar's final instruction to her as she bestowed the blessing of one of Lionstar's nine lives. Within time, perhaps, she could build that same bond once again with her deputy Hawthornsnake. Lionstar saw potential in the young she-cat, and hoped to help her realize that in the moons to come as Dimstar had done for her.
Her golden eyes blinked once more into the darkness, and it wasn't long until she could feel her consciousness slowly ebbing away. It seemed for the first night since recently that she was finally going to get a bit of rest.
"Lionstar" A familiar voice hissed her name, bringing her back to the attention of her surroundings. Although the voice was familiar in recognition, it did not belong to a cat that she was particularly fond of. The she-cat had to do her best in stifling a sigh.
Lionstar rose to a sitting position with great effort, exhaustion weighing heavily on her. "Yes, what is it?" She mumbled with a slight hint of annoyance, welcoming the tom into her den.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ Sparrowflight winced at the tone of annoyance in Lionstar’s voice as she greeted him. He had just been born and had barely opened his eyes when Lionstar had been named deputy of RiverClan, but he still remembered that day. Lionstar had seemed almost glowing in the sunlight, and to the small kit that was Sparrowflight, she seemed to be dazzling with the regality of StarClan. Then, much later, she'd become leader, and similar to he they'd both come into their roles adruptly. He’d always admired her firm but supportive method of rule…which was why he understood her dislike of him. All the same…it was almost enough to make him apologize and turn around, rather than deliver the message he was very certain she would be none too pleased to hear. But of course he could do no such thing. He was a medicine cat, and that meant acting as the deliverer of StarClan’s messages. Taking a breath, he moved inside, trying to calm himself as he sat before Lionstar. “I had a dream,” he told her, before quickly clarifying. He didn’t want her to think he was just looking for some comfort from a nightmare. “A message from StarClan,” he said, taking a shaking breath before repeating the words that Gorsepelt had ominously echoed, “Darkness is coming and ruin will follow. All four clans will face destruction. But this does not need mean our doom: four paws will lead the way to our salvation.” As Sparrowflight finished he stared wide eyed, waiting for her response. ooc: ❈Lionstar

Lionstar "I had a dream" The tom mewed in response to her rather unwelcoming question. Lionstar closed her eyes with a sigh. "I wish I was able to dream." She murmured quietly, flicking her tail dismissively as she wondered if this would become yet another restless night. Her golden eyes set upon Sparrowflight again as he spoke, fatigue and exhaustion written all over her features.
“A message from StarClan, darkness is coming and ruin will follow. All four clans will face destruction. But this does not need mean our doom: four paws will lead the way to our salvation.” As he finished, Sparrowflight stared back at her with wide eyes, truly frightened by what he must have assumed to be a message from StarClan.
Lionstar couldn't help but to feel skeptical of what the tom was relaying to her right now. It was no secret that the she-cat doubted his abilities and legitimacy as an official medicine cat for their clan. Sparrowflight had not became the successor of the position in the traditional way, and some of his methods of healing and knowledge of herbs had been unconventional from usual clan practices. Naturally, she was wary in this moment of him claiming to receive a message that was from StarClan themselves.
However, the she-cat knew she would have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Mistrusting his qualification for the position meant mistrusting the judgement of both Gorsepelt and Dimstar. If they had felt he was the one who was supposed to help lead their clan as a medicine cat, Lionstar would have to learn how to faithfully trust their decision as much as her prejudices defaulted her otherwise.
"Alright, this dream of yours," Lionstar meowed, followed by another sigh. Part of her was beginning to feel anxious as the meaning of the message was starting to set in for her. If true, it was no doubt an ominous threat that they would soon face. Part of her felt like cursing StarClan, could they ever let her catch a break? Dimstar had just passed the role down to her, and she was still days into the adjustment process, and now this?
"Let's talk about this. What do you think it means?" The ginger cat mewed more softly, curious to know what Sparrowflight had made of all of it. Perhaps it was her exhausted state she currently found herself in, but the message was vague and hard to interpret. Although, admittedly, those were usually the ways StarClan delivered their prophecies.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ For a long moment, Sparrowflight thought that Lionstar might turn him away, tell him his dream had been only that - a dream. It was with a heavy sigh of relief that he exhaled when she finally spoke, even going so far as to ask his opinion. Sparrowflight hesitated, surprised, and tried to get his own frantic thoughts in order. “Clearly it’s foretelling some terrible event,” he murmured, half thinking out loud as he recalled the fear behind Gorsepelt’s gaze, “It could be referring to the color of a cat’s pelt…or perhaps a literal darkness.” He frowned, mentally coming to the second half of the message. “The ‘four paws’ is what is concerning me,” he admitted, “’Four paws will lead the way to our salvation’…Does it mean literal paws…or could it be referring to apprentices…?” Sparrowflight stopped, realizing only then that he’d started pacing. Embarrassed, he forced himself to sit, though his tail still twitched anxiously as he turned his gaze back to Lionstar for her thoughts. ooc:

Lionstar The pale ginger cat remained fixed, and focused in her position. Paying no mind to how Sparrowflight began pacing her den, as he pondered the possibilities of what the message meant. Her brow furrowed as she listened to the tom, although she could not deny the anxiety that was steadily creeping into her as well. Her skepticism was her form of wishful thinking that was evaporating quickly. As much as she doubted how well Sparrowflight could serve RiverClan as a medicine cat, this dream he had was undeniably real. It had to be.
The tom forced himself to sit, although he was still twitching anxiously as his gaze set upon hers. Lionstar quickly mulled over everything as he awaited her response. "Four 'paws' could mean four apprentices.." She agreed with a slight nod, the tip of her tail flicking as she struggled herself to make sense of it all.
"There are also four clans. Could it be a paw from each clan, one cat from every clan who is a part of this destiny?" She mused, her golden eyes held contact with Sparrowflight's as she tried connecting all the pieces of the message he was given. Lionstar tried her best to not convey the irritation that was building up inside of her.
For whatever reason it seemed StarClan enjoyed testing her. The she-cat was beginning to feel defeated, she wanted to appear strong, yet this message right now was adding more cracks to that surface. Lionstar shook her head, and looked down at her paws. "I don't know what to make of this Sparrowflight." She admitted, the weariness becoming more apparent in her tone.
"Dimstar might know how to handle this, but I don't. These past few days have been a struggle to adjust to, and now this?" The ginger she-cat meowed. Although leaders and medicine cats were supposed to confide in each other, it felt weird to her to unload onto Sparrowflight given their less than favorable history. She had kept it strictly business with him in the past, viewing him as less than the other RiverClan cats because of his disappearance stunt moons ago.
Now they were forced to be each other's support systems in order to efficiently lead the clan that Lionstar loved as much as she loved her own kits. "How do we approach this? Do we let anyone else know, or keep it to ourselves until we start noticing signs of this coming to fruition?" A chill went down the she-cat's spine, as she wondered just how long it would take for it to become reality.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ "There are also four clans. Could it be a paw from each clan, one cat from every clan who is a part of this destiny?"Lionstar spoke thoughtfully, and not for the first time Sparrowflight found herself relieved that RiverClan had such a levelheaded leader. He met her gaze with his own intense one, nodding to himself before she gave a weary sigh. “Lionstar…” Sparrowflight softened, touched she would reveal such an intimate concern to him. He shook his head at her, stepping a bit closer. “You were a skilled deputy before you became our leader,” he pointed out to her, “Every leader has to start somewhere, and I would be surprised if any felt fully prepared for their role. A message like this…I can’t imagine even Dimstar taking it in stride.” She went on to ask his opinion, and Sparrowflight lashed his tail. He took a moment to breath, his heartrate slowly returning to normal after his dream. Instead, his faith lifted him up - he knew StarClan would support the clans whatever they faced. “It’s up to you,” he said, “If you wish, I will travel to the other clans to see if the other medicine cats have received the same message. Or, we can wait and bring it up at the gathering. Or…” Sparrowflight hesitated, not liking the third option but willing to trust Lionstar if it were the one she chose, “Or we could keep quiet, and wait for more information to reveal itself. Lionstar It was almost odd in the way that Sparrowflight's words soothed her down from her sleep deprived exhaustion and anxiety. She had spent days internally processing all the changes around her, that she had all but forgotten that at one point she was a great deputy, and eventually would make a great leader, too. A part of her wanted to hold onto faith that one day she would become better prepared for this role.
Lionstar's gaze softened as she looked up to her medicine cat, listening intently to his advice. Fear crept into her realizing she would never be able to consult with Dimstar for how to go about things anymore. That burden rested solely on her shoulders now. She carefully weighed out all the pros and cons of keeping the information to themselves, or seeking collaboration with the other clans. Surely, if this was a prophecy that involved the whole forest, then it would be more than just RiverClan who received the message.
After thoughtfully pondering how to proceed with the information, she finally broke the silence that fell between her and Sparrowflight. "You medicine cats are without borders." Lionstar stated, carefully thinking through how to approach the situation. "I would like for you to speak with the other medicine cats privately... see if any of you have shared the same dreams. If they haven't, then do not share more than what you need to."
The she-cat sighed, feeling her shoulders slump. The new leader was already beginning to feel defeated, even though she would never allow her clan-mates to see her this distressed. Lionstar fully understood the image she had to maintain in public. "If the other clans have shared the same dream as ours, then the four clans can address this at the gathering." She meowed. It seemed like a solid, air-tight, idea to her. At the moment, she couldn't see any ways in which it could backfire on RiverClan.
"If you have a better idea, please share it with me. I'm at a loss right now." Lionstar's tone was flat, and it was quite possibly one of the most unfiltered and raw moments any cat of RiverClan had ever witnessed of her. Stress, grief, new responsibilities, and learning a new role did not mix well together.

HOLD ME TIGHTER AND KEEP ME GROUNDED ♥ Sparrowflight watched silently as Lionstar weighed his words and their options. He trusted her deliberation completely - he had never had the ambition to lead. Sparrowflight had only ever wanted to be the listener, and to do what he could to help heal his clan in times of trouble. When Lionstar spoke, Sparrowflight dipped his head in agreement. “No, Lionstar. I think you’re right,” he commented, finding more comfort in their agreement than he perhaps even realized, “If it’s alright with you, I could go now.” He would go see Mintnose in WindClan first, he thought to himself, and then go on to ShadowClan after that. “If I go quickly, I should be able to get back before nightfall. Sorrelpaw should be able to handle any small bumps or bruises without too much trouble.”
